Problem, Mission, and Concept Statements

Problem Statement:

Right off campus on the corner of Highland and State Street there is an old Blockbuster and adjacent building with no occupancy. This is a high traffic area and is right next to successful businesses and a new shopping center, with the building being a cornerstone. There are no movie theaters that regularly have shows that are close to campus. This area is very close to the universities, along with multiple businesses and apartment complexes. Incorporating education into the theatre will make it flow seamlessly into the neighboring areas, while inviting different learning approaches than the institutions surrounding. By creating an interactive movie theatre in the old Blockbuster building, entertainment would be provided that is only found miles away from the college area.

Mission Statement:

Being a cornerstone of the LSU and Northgate area with a large entertainment aspect would create revenue for the space, along with helping other businesses directly surrounding it. It would create jobs that students or non-students could easily work, being so close to campus’ and living complexes. The Cinema would bring a different aspect to the largely food-based area, while inviting a variety of demographics in. The education and interactive features of the venue would create a fun and safe alternative for young age groups to go to during after school hours.

Concept Statement:

I am going to create a movie theatre that generates specific movie and learning experiences in and out of the theatres. Each wing will have movie memorabilia with background information and fun facts. This will provide interactive entertainment before and after seeing a movie. The cinemas will also play movies featuring pop-up commentary, continuing the entertainment and fun learning experience. Not only will the cinema continue the education of the neighboring institutions, it will also be highly innovative to fit into the new commercial area immediately surrounding it. The areas will be highly stylized to appeal to the young adults living and going to school, as well as families.
